OOTD: Grey Skies

Aloha ladies!

I am back with a regular fashion post huraah!
I have no idea why I have been procrastinating to do this one since I took these photos waay back, on Eid Al-Adha. Second day of Eid to be more precise. My local Sudanese community did a gathering to celebrate as usual, and it happened to be a BBQ party at a nearby park.

So I chose to go with a smart/sailor girl dress code that at the same time provided the comfortable feel of casual clothes. If you know me well, you know that I am obsessed with the colour grey. It makes a healthy 60% of my wardrobe LOL. So let’s take a closer look at the outfit!

Top | H&M
Cardigan | AX Paris
Scarf | Louis Vuitton replica (China)
Skirt | China
Shoes | Deichmann

Can I just take a moment to hype about how much I am in love with this skirt. I’ve literally made so much new outfit combinations with it! Let me know if you would like to this kind of thing (1 item, several outfits). I also have it in grey and peach but still on the look out for the perfect top for it.

My “Sailor Girl” cardigan as I like to call it is from a local stockist of AX Paris and other brands. I did buy it 1 year ago, so I am not sure if it will still be on their website. Take a look regardless. I did take it with me to Sudan, this year and everyone loved it.

Here are the accessories up close:

I told you guys that I’ve been wearing my F21 cuff bracelet everywhere. Click here if you want to see the haul post about it. Also, I chose red nail polish for a ‘pop of colour’. I don’t usually wear anything but neutrals.

So I guess that’s it for now!

Until next time

Take care 🙂

My Haircare Routine!

Aloha Ladies!

I decided to publish another post today just cos it’s Friidaay Friidaay gotta post twice on Fridaaay.

I know hair talk is kind of a taboo topic for us hijabies but honestly, it’s completely fine to share our experiences and help other girls who are dealing with similar situations. You have no idea how many people are on the same boat as you so it’s worth while getting it out there!

That’s why I would like to introduce to you my Haircare routine which has pretty much remained unchanged for several months now.
Just a little bit of background about my hair: I have curly hair type 3B that is extremely thick. In 2012, I decided to do a massive cut. For 6 months, I went completely heat free as as part of a healthier hair plan. It then took me endless weeks of research to cumulate the best hair products for my hair and to have a stable regime. I personally think it’s not about the brands you use, but the routine you take.

So on with the first product!

image

I have used TRESemmé shampoos for years now. It’s honestly been an essential household item for myself, my mum and my sister. There’s nothing much to say except that it does what it’s supposed to do: keep your hair nice and clean. And it smells good, too.

image

On days where I would like a lighter “cleanse ” I use Johnson’s Baby shampoo and massage it on my scalp. Johnson’s is Sulphate-free (Sulphate is the chemical which creates foam) and so it doesn’t completely strip your hair of it’s natural oils.

image

Then I condition my hair with the conditioner from the same TREsemmé line. I keep it in my hair for 5-7 minutes and then rinse off with cold water. I really like how this conditioner defines my hair texture and also, it’s super smooth so I like to detangle as I apply.

image

I always air dry my hair; its so much healthier than blow drying. After about 1.5 hours, my hair is mostly dry with a slight hint of dampness. This is when I use the LOC (leave-in, oil, cream) method which I highly recommend if you have curly dry hair.

– I begin applying my leave-in which is Palmer’s Curl Extend Hair pudding. I apply it from roots to tips and comb through with my fingers or a paddle brush to eliminate frizz.

– I then section my hair into 6-8 sections and comb each one individually.

image

My Next step is oil.
– I massage organic, virgin coconut oil (mine is cold-pressed, purchased from Tesco)  into my scalp as it stimulates hair growth, and also apply some on my dry ends. I seriously recommend buying coconut oil no matter what hair texture you have if you want healthy, shiny hair.

image

last step: hair cream
I personally prefer hair wax as a curly girl. It locks in moisture much longer and smoothes down hair edges better. This one is ULTRA SHEEN Hair Food . I apply this to each section as well; from root to end. I then go over it with a bristle brush for extra hold.
After I’ve done that to each section, I twist them into two-strand braids and take it out after a couple of hours, or the next day.

However, if I decide to straighten my hair. I take out the Hair Pudding and use this:

This is an Argan oil heat defense spray which I’ve recently been obsessed with.  I replaced it with my previous Schwarzkopf’s heat defense spray. And can I just say, this makes your hair feel like silk.
After straightening, I apply coconut oil and Hair wax in the same manner, but instead of doing twist-outs, I style normally. I will then sleep with my hair in a pineapple bun to protect it.

Soooo…that’s it for now!
I hope you ladies found this somewhat useful or interesting to read.
Any comments or suggestions are welcome.

I guess it’s a formal farewell then. Until next time, take care 🙂

OOTD: MCM Comic Con + Mini Haul

Aloha guys!

I am back with a new post and hopefully you will enjoy it!
So last May, there was a Comi Con event held in Excel, London which I  was really excited about because I love Cosplay and dress up and anything  anime. I took the tube at 8 to, with my friend Sara and we arrived there at 9:30am.

image

So here’s the outfit! I know…I know I didn’t dress up. But that’s because its hard finding modest Cosplay. So I just decided to go with an “it’s nearly Summer” kind of outfit. Items that I don’t mention are either purchased from abroad or I genuinely don’t remember…sorry.

Blouse | Matalan
Bag | Fiorelli (stolen of Sara)
Shoes | Deichman

image

Here’s a picture of some of the attenders #Awesomeness Overload
I love how the Assassin’s Creed dressers and Pirates blend in and then there’s that one guy in Spiderman, hanging on for dear life LOL.

image

Afterwards, we decided to go Westfield, Stratford fo some shoppinnn.
I seriously love the Forever 21 there because of how spacious it is compared to the Oxford Street one. The New Look and H&M are flagship as well. I didn’t want to go crazy though – the Spring/Summer collection was b e a u t i f u l – but yo I was going on holiday 2 months after and I wanted to save money.
I was thinking for sometime on building a ring collection (because I literally have no rings) so the first item I bought is a massive Shield  ring from New Look. In F21, I ended up going for a gold hand chain because why ever not? I also fell in love with this cream, bendable, cuff bracelet which is outlined in gold metallic that has a subtle reflection (I wear it EVERYWHERE now).

image

And to perfectly end the day, we grabbed some froyo’s from Yo Moo. And yep, mine is the pot that’s overflowing hehe.
But it was some serious frozen yoghurt o.O

Anyyyyway…..I guess that’s an  informal farewell from me!

Until next time. Take care 🙂

Windsor Walkabout

Aloha Ladies!

So as you caan seee (nigerial accent), this is my first blog post so it’s kind of awkward for me because I am like, “What do I even talk about?” (Cali girl accent)… I guess after a while you will get used to my blabbing, I am PRO at that. So anyway, since the new academic year, I now study in Windsor, England. And I just thought it would be nice to share some of the photos I take during my walkabouts…because I also do a lot of that. So…

cropped-dscf2379-edit.jpg

You may not be able to tell  but I study A-Level Photography. Hi classmates? And for one of the shoots we were asked to create a colour wheel using different coloured objects (or whatever you can find) in Windsor. The picture above was obviously to represent the colour yellow. It was on display by the French perfume house, Guerlain, so it immediately caught my eye the way they had yellow-coloured fragrances with the heels and the Sunflower postcard (even though I chose to leave the perfume out of the frame).

DSCF2386 edit

This one was supposed to represent the colour red, but you can clearly see the orange and green so meh. But regardless, how many times do you encounter a chili pepper plant?  – okay, for me it’s like everyday now becuase it’s on every single table at this cafe in the Windsor town centre – it looks seriously cool. Where was I? oh, yeah….red. I like red actually, it’s my favourite colour and I’ve been digging Maroon for Autumn fashion, as you doo.

CAKE CAKE CAKE CAKE CAKE CAKE CAKE CAKE CAKE

Cheese cake. Cheese cake. Ridiculously overpriced Cheese cake. You guys don’t understand my weakenss for any type of dessert; it’s an understatement to say I have a sweet tooth. I had to take this from 5 meters away and rely on the “16 x Optical zoom” b.s to get a sharp image. It’s not that blurry in terms of focus but I admit I had to edit the living day lights out of it to get a near off decent image. Hashtag photography problems.   But yeah, the reason I had to stand so far back is to stop myself from being lured in by the sales consultant guy next door who plays a ukulele and sings “come on in, free fudge samples!” no kidding. And I am very faint-hearted when it comes to spending money on food or any eye candy for that matter.

I guess, I am done. I’ve typed all this during my Photography lesson which I don’t even regret because I’ve done my day’s worth of printing and sticking – and eating  pasta salad. Also this keyboard is driving me insane with this lagging -__-”

So a formal farewell, until next time! Take care 🙂
